Locals disappointed over council decision to greenlight Leitrim wind farm

Locals have expressed disappointment over the local authorities decision to move ahead with the development.

Planners in Leitrim have given the go ahead for the construction of 8 new wind turbines in the north of the county.

Plans lodged by Coillte CGA call for 8 turbines with a maximum overall blade tip height of up to 170 metres, with two more located across the county boundary in Sligo.

The major project was the subject of close to 100 submissions from locals who were against the development.

These included issues over the environmental impact of the windfarms, noise concerns and worries of flicker from the turbines inside local homes.

Local opposition group Wind Aware Dromahair have confirmed they will be lodging an appeal over the granting of permission to An Bord Pleanála.

In a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound news, group spokesperson Adrienne Diamond says the development could seriously damage the county's blossoming eco-tourism trade:
