Today at 4pm is the deadline for submissions on the plans.

Residents of an Edgeworthstown community where planning permission is being sought for a large wind turbine have expressed their surprise at the proposed development.

Natural Forces Renewable Energy lodged an application to develop a 138 metre high wind turbine at Lissanore outside the town in early March that will generate 4.2mega watts of energy.

A decision on the application is due later this month, with locals claiming they were only made aware of the application in recent days.

The planning application contains a report from the company suggesting that it did consult with some locals and issues around shadow flicker and the visual impact of the turbine were raised which it hopes to address if it gets the green light from council planners.

Submissions on the proposal have also been made from TII, Irish water and the Irish Aviation authority,
