The general manager of the LARCC Cancer Support Centre for Longford Westmeath is encouraging people not to wait to be called for screening if they have any concerns about cancer.
The HSE has said this week that it'll take till October to clear the backlog of smear testing that built up while Cervical Check was suspended, and Breast Check is likely to face similar delays.
The LARCC centre in Multyfarnham works with people from Westmeath, Longford and anyone within a 50 miles radius to offer counselling and some complimentary therapies for people going through cancer treatment or recovering from it.
Bernie McHugh from the centre says the past weeks have obviously been a very difficult time for anyone who's sick but she says people shouldn't wait to be called from screening if they have noticed any symptoms they're worried about.
