A material contravention of the Athlone Town Development Plan at Baylough is to be discussed at this afternoons meeting of Westmeath County Council.
The scheme to be debated involves the building of 19 dwellings on just over an acre of land at Baylough .
It also involves the demolition of two existing dwellings and an unused lough bar with off-licence and associated buildings formally known as Wards Bar and Lounge.
The site is divided equally between two zoning objectives, "proposed residential" and "commercial".
The Westmeath CEO has said he believes the proposed development is consistent with the objectives of the National Planning Framework and that it will facilitate the regeneration and development of a long-standing and redundant site on the western approach to the town.
