The updated figures this evening show there have been 25,498 confirmed cases since the virus first broke out here in late February.
They include a further 9 cases reported to public health officials today.
A further 2 people with Covid-19 have died, meaning the death toll stands at 1,740.
Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ronan Glynn said Ireland’s 14 day incidence of COVID-19 is now less than 3 cases per 100,000- among the lowest in Europe.
He also defended the recording of deaths after today's HIQA’s report on mortality, which found excess deaths in Ireland from March to June were "substantially" less than the officially reported figures.
Dr Glynn said it demonstrates we have comprehensively recorded deaths by following the recommended WHO approach.
