The Gardai in Castlerea have issued an open letter to the community for their support following the recent death of Detective Garda Colm Horkan.
In an open letter to the community, Superintendent Goretti Sheridan says that she wanted to to convey her heartfelt thanks to everyone in counties Roscommon, Mayo and beyond who have been so supportive and giving, in the time of loss of their esteemed friend and colleague, Garda Colm Horkan.
Speaking on Behalf of the garda district Superintendent Sheridan says the support shown by local businesses and members of the public has meant so much, noting the many mass cards and tokens of appreciation offered to the force, following Detective Garda Horkan’s untimely passing.
She says they are acutely aware that this immense loss is not solely confined to An Garda Siochana but extends to the wider community and she says this is clearly indicative of the close links and ties that the organisation are privileged to have with the communities they serve.
Superintendent Sheridan says the support from the community at this time of grief has been a source of strength to An Garda Síochana.
The Donegal native says a void has been left in An Garda Siochana, the community of Castlerea and the wider communities in Ballaghaderreen and Charlestown and concludes that Colm’s immediate family and friends are foremost in their thoughts and prayers.
Superintendent Sheridan leaves the Castlerea area tomorrow, having been transferred to Sligo - Tom Colsh who was promoted on July 2nd is to take up the role of Superintendent in Castlerea.
