There are fears the potential for the creation of new jobs may be lost if there's a delay in the funding for the Just Transition programme.

€11 million is being made available this year for projects focusing on retraining workers and proposals to generate sustainable employment in green enterprise in the region.

Over 150 applications were submitted by the first round in June - groups say they were hoping for an answer by the end of August.

A project in Lanesboro Ballyleague to develop a new outdoor recreation centre to provide boat, cycle and walking tours in the area is hoping to employ 15 former Bord na Mona workers.

Alan Broderick from the group behind the initiative says a delay would set their project back for the entire 2021 season.
