Longford Councillor Gerry Warnock says the introduction of body-worn cameras for some staff at the local authority is a reflection of the actions of a small section of society.

The council has issued a notice saying it's introducing body-worn cameras for traffic wardens from the 1st of July.

The council says that during the course of their work Traffic Wardens may be subject to verbal abuse, they may also be threatened with violence, or suffer actual physical assault.

The local authority says the cameras will enhance the warden's health and safety and could also assist in the resolution of complaints.

Independent Councillor Gerry Warnock says while the vast majority of people behave responsibly in relation to traffic and parking issues, the cameras have become necessary to deal with the minority who have no regard for any rules:
