The power station in Lanesboro has resumed operations this week.
Lough Ree Power wasn't generating electricity through the summer months because of conditions on the river Shannon, but with a drop in water temperature in recent weeks, the ESB says the station is now in a position to resume production.
Last year, An Bord Pleanala ruled that the station's planning permission would not be extended beyond 2020 and so the current level of production will only continue for the next ten weeks.
The station will still close for good in December as announced in November of last year.
Local Fine Gael councillor Gerard Farrell says there's been mixed emotions locally when people saw the plant back in operation this week.
He says he is still hoping the actual structure can be saved for some alternative use.
