The damage will cost thousands to repair.

An Athlone turf cutting contractor is appealing for witnesses after his agricultural machinery was vandalised in recent days.

Aidan Donoghue of Donoghue and Sons Plant Machinery says his hitachi digger and turf machine had all of their windows broken on Sunday last.

He believes the damage done to his machinery will delay his business until replacement parts are received.

He says seeing his machines destroyed so close to the busy bog season is very disheartening for him:

'Everyone is entitled to try to make a living and that's what I am trying to do and this yoke all broke up with all the glass broken and everything. To see something like that is disgusting. It is going to costs a good bit of money to repair all this. A man is supposed to come tomorrow to do the digger for me and it is hard to stick the noise with it as you have a big engine in front of it. '
