A Leitrim representative for the Teacher's Union of Ireland is challenging public health advice on plans to return Leaving Cert Students to school.

It had been proposed by the Department of Education that Leaving Cert Students would return to class for 3 days a week during the current closures.

The Union says schools were closed in March when covid numbers were significantly lower than they currently are, and that their members do not feel safe in returning to class at this time.

However, the TUI are also calling for the traditional leaving cert to be sat in June despite widespread calls for it to be cancelled once again.

The union claims the problems resulting from last year's calculated grades show that the traditional Leaving Cert is more trustworthy.
