Local TD to withdraw from politics after next General Election

Deputy MacSharry resigned as a member of Fianna Fáil in November 2022 over the handling of a complaint made against him by a party councillor.

Local TD Marc MacSharry has announced he will not contest the next general election.

In a statement, the former Fianna Fail TD said it had been an 'extraordinary privilege' to serve in the Oireachtas since 2002.

Deputy MacSharry was elected to the Seanad as a Fianna Fáil senator on three occasions between 2002 and 2016.

He successfully contested the 2016 general election in the Sligo Leitrim Constituency and retained his seat in 2020.
