A deal has been reached to form the next government.

The leaders of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and the Greens have signed off on a programme for government in the last hour.

The almost 140-page document covers all aspects of how the next government will function.

There has been some fears that the programme will include an enhanced focus on public transport rather than the development or improvements of national routes like the N2 or the long-awaited N4 upgrade.

Fianna Fail senators and TDs from acorss the region are due to attend a parliamentary party meeting this evening toe examine the detail of the new agreement between the three parties.

Ordinary party members across the country will need to approve the deal - with that vote expected to take around 10 days.
