Roscommon/Galway TD Denis Naughten is calling on the government to categorically state that there will be no electricity blackouts this winter.
The former Energy Minister's call comes as he along with a Regional Group of TD is tabling a motion for a debate on emergency energy legislation.
The group is calling for a ban on any threat to turn off the electricity supply to domestic customers and critical social infrastructure such as hospitals, schools and nursing homes.
The local td say the reality is that the current crisis has been caused by the mismanagement of electricity supplies, which is now causing serious financial hardship to families and business throughout the country.
Deputy Naughten says the government needs to introduce a cap on the price on electricity:
"What we do need to see is financial assistance brought forward in the budget and also we need to see need to introduce a price cap on the charge to customers for a unit of the electricity and the government to meeting the deficit of the extra charge and this has been done in other countries and we need to do the same."
