Longford Women's Link DV manager, Natalie O' Reilly says they have accompanied and supported 23 women in Longford Court in the last 10 days alone.

Domestic violence levels in the Shannonside region are increasing as Christmas approaches according to a local support service.

Longford Women's Link Domestic Violence unit provides supports to women and children experiencing domestic violence with services including court accompanying, counselling and connections to practical supports.

The service has accompanied 23 women in Longford Court over the last ten days in relation to Domestic Violence, with staff confirming the number will increase over the next fortnight.

Financial concerns, increased alcohol consumption and more time spent together can contribute to increased levels of domestic violence over the Christmas.

DV Manager for Longford Women's Link, Natalie O'Reilly says it's an unfortunate fact that calls will increase over the next weeks.

"In the last 10 days alone, we have accompanied and supported 23 women in Longford court due to domestic violence so that gives the listeners an insight as to what's happening on the ground. Unfortunately I think we're going to be hearing of more women who will need to go to court".
