Local Senator hopes post offices will offer more services

Some services are returning to the post office.

A Longford senator is hoping additional services can be offered by the post office network in the near future.

Fine Gael's Michael Carrigy says extra footfall in post offices will help save jobs and revive communities.

It comes following yesterday's announcement that jobseeker payments will return to the post office following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

The option of receiving the benefit directly into a bank account will be wound down with those claiming the benefit now asked to collect it in person.

Speaking to Shannonside FM News the Ballinalee post master said payments that went online during the pandemic had a major effect post offices.
