Local Senator explains decision for opposing hospitality curfew

Senator Murphy believes a balance needs to be struck between Covid restrictions and mental health.

A local government senator is defending his choice to publicly oppose the decision to restrict pub and restaurant opening times.

Fianna Fail Senator Eugene Murphy was among a number of Government TDs and Senators who've been registering their disappointment with the new Covid restrictions.

The Roscommon representative says the new regulations are effectively closing the rural pub trade by stealth.

The group was heavily criticised by Labour TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, who called their address outside of Leinster house 'a circus'.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Senator Murphy responded to the deputy's claims.

The former Fianna Fail deputy believes there has to be a balance struck between Covid restrictions and mental health.
