Local residents seek solution to lack of 24 hour ATM in Drumshanbo

Locals have been highlighting the importance cash still has in rural Ireland,

It's hoped that a community solution can be found to providing a 24-hour ATM banking service in Drumshanbo.

Bank of Ireland has confirmed that that as well as closing the bank branch later this year, it will also be removing its cash machine service leaving the town with two ATMs located within existing businesses.

This month's meeting of the Ballinamore M.D heard a suggestion that the local credit union may be could provide an ATM service, but this has not yet been discussed with the facility.

A new report out today shows that ATM cash withdrawals dropped by 44 per cent and the use of cheques fell by 26 per cent in the first three months of this year.
