Local residents concerned over route selection for new Carrick-on-Shannon Bypass

Local authority engineers are reassuring residents that every effort will be made to avoid demolishing people's homes.

Leitrim County Council says it would not be the intention of any consultants to knock houses in an estate to make way for a possible bypass of Carrick on Shannon.

Two of the three route corridors proposed for the Dromod Carrick on Shannon project converge in or are close to the Attirory area, in which there are 8 housing estates.

Residents in the estate say they are shocked that a proposal could come so close to or through their estate.

Senior Engineer with Leitrim County Council Terry McGovern says while any house which is in a proposed corridor is at risk, if the corridor is eventually selected, every effort would be made to design a road away from people's homes:
