A local principal is urging the public to not be afraid to use the Irish they have.
Events are taking place around the region to mark Seachtain na Gaelige, where use of the Irish language is encouraged.
Catríona Ní Chonradha is the principal of Gaelscoil Liatroma in Carrick on Shannon
She says that it's becoming more acceptable to mix Irish and English together and people shouldn't be afraid to use cúpla focail.
"That's what we want is that spirit, not binge afraid of making mistakes, not being afraid of throwing in cúpla focail béarla because you know what, that's happening in every language around the world. The French are always giving out about the amount of Le Weekend being used. We can do it as Gaelige. We can use a couple of English words here and there if we're stuck looking for words. Nobody's listening to see if it's right or wrong. It's about being able to talk to each other in our native language or just using as much as we have".
