Local pig farmers warn industry will fail without price increases

They are calling for a 30 cent per kilo increase in pig meat by the end of May.

Pig farmers across the region are calling for price increases on pig meat before the end of the month.

Local IFA farmers are currently protesting outside four factories across the country including Carty Meats in Athlone and are not allowing produce to leave or enter the factories.

According to industry representatives, if action isn't taken, there'll be no pig industry in Ireland.

Regional IFA Chair Frank Brady told the Joe Finnegan Show that supports from the Department of Agriculture and Minister McConalogue are simply not enough:
