Funding has been announced for a number of groups.

A local MEP is highlighting that hate speech against the LGBTQI+ community is still very prevalent

Her comments come as new funding for various LGBTQI+ groups has been announced across the Shannonside region.

Midlands Northwest MEP, Maria Walsh, says the funding is a welcome boost.

She also says, however, that prejudices against these communities still exist.

''Equality is hard fought and very quickly lost. You see it multiple times, we lost two community members in Sligo not that long ago. We have to understand that if we are not putting in best practices and supports in place,  that our country too will  suffer the roll backs. People assume when it's not outside their door, in their community, it's never going to happen but we see it online. We see hate speech discrimination this very anti us.''
