The local tillage sector is in dire straits due to ongoing wet weather, according to a local farming representative. Longford IFA Chair John Sheridan says farmers are prepared to walk away from planting this year. He also highlighted the knock-on effect this would have on other sectors, including the feeding of livestock.

The local IFA Chair says the poor weather conditions were also putting a strain on farmers' mental health. Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, he said help and support was available from the association:
