Local hospitals see decline in Covid cases

There are no Covid positive patients at Portiuncula Hospital this afternoon.

Just over fifty people are being treated for Covid in local hospitals today - a decline of over 70% per cent on figures for the same day last month

New data from the HSE shows that Galway university hospital continues to have the highest number of Covid positive patients in its wards.

The highest number of Covid patients in hospital in this region are being treated at Galway University hospital where 23 people are Covid positive as of 8pm last night.

14 people are Covid positive in Tullamore, 10 in Sligo, 6 in Mullingar and none in Portiuncula.( 53)

However one person is in ICU in the Ballinasloe hospital as well as Tullamore and Mullingar with Covid with three also in high level care at Galway University Hospital.

Compared to figures for the same day two weeks ago on the 11th of April there was a total of 52 Covid positive patients in Galway University hospital, 31 in Tullamore, 24 in Sligo, 14 in Mullingar and nine in Portiuncula. (130)

Month to month, there has also been a significant drop in the number of people with Covid in local hospitals.

During the peak of Covid cases after St Patricks' day, Galway had 58 patients, Sligo 44, Tullamore 39, Portiuncula 24 and Mullingar had 15. ( 180)

6,841 new cases of the virus have been reported in the past three days.

4,368 new cases were confirmed through a PCR test.

3,531 people have registered a positive antigen test result on the HSE's online portal since Friday.
