Local haulier takes part in Dublin protest out of 'sheer desperation'

The demonstration was organised by the Irish Truckers & Haulage Association Against Fuel Prices.

A Mullingar based haulier says he's been taking part in today's protest in Dublin out of 'sheer desperation'.

Parts of Dublin port has been blocked off today as truckers protest fuel prices.

Lenny Clavin from Clavin Transport runs 8 trucks from the midlands to the east coast on a daily basis, bringing bulk products on the journey up, and other goods on the way back.

Despite running an efficient transport operation with high spec trucks, Lenny Clavin says his costs has risen by €25,000 per month, solely due to fuel costs.

Speaking on the Let's Talk show this afternoon, the Westmeath haulier, says he wants the government to consider capping the tax that his and similar businesses pay, to give them some kind of breathing space during this time of crisis.
