Advice on vaccination during pregnancy has also been updated, with women now allowed to get the jab before 14 weeks.

A Well known local GP is urging women in the early stages of pregnancy to get a covid vaccine following new NIAC advice.

Previous regulations did not advise women in early pregnancy to get the vaccine until they were past the 14-week mark.

The National Immunization Advisory Committee also says people with compromised immune systems should get an additional dose of an mRNA jab, regardless of what vaccine they originally received.

The additional dose will be offered to qualifying people over the age of 12, no earlier than two months after their second dose.

Ballygar GP Dr Martin Daly says it is important that pregnant women now receive the jab before 14 weeks.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Dr Daly says the virus poses an additional danger to pregnant women and they should do what they can to protect themselves:
