Local food and drink businesses urged to reduce waste

Food and drink businesses across the Shannonside region are being urged to reduce their food waste.

Figures from the Environmental Protection Agency show that almost two thirds of food waste comes from businesses. According to the agency, one third of all food produced for human consumption is wasted, generating up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Enterprises such as Tesco and O'Brien's Fine Foods have signed up to the EPA's Food Waste Charter, and will be a few amongst many other companies to speak to businesses at the Forum.
