Local councillor says those caught dumping should face prison sentence

A Longford Councillor believes those caught illegally dumping should serve a prison sentence.

Fine Gael's Padraig Brady is expressing his disappointment at seeing rubbish dumped on local roads and in bogs around the county.

This month's meeting of Longford M.D. heard that a total of 1848 environmental pollution complaints were made to the council in 2020.

Councillor Brady believes the current 150 euro fine is insufficient particularly for repeat offenders.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern sound Councillor Brady said it's an escalating problem which is costing Longford County Council.
