A local councillor has downplayed concerns around begging in Longford. Fianna Fáil councillor Seamus Butler says that while he has witnessed begging in the town, he has not seen organised groups of beggars.

His comments came after concerns were raised by members of the public that the act has become a more regular sight in the town. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Cllr Butler said he believes there is currently no need for by-laws to tackle the problem:
