Earlier this week, a vacant house in Leixlip was set on fire following rumours it was earmarked to house asylum seekers.

A Westmeath councillor has described recent arson attacks on vacant buildings as 'madness'. Earlier this week, a vacant house in Leixlip was set on fire following rumours it was earmarked to house asylum seekers.

A number of arrests were also made in relation to a fire at a vacant pub in Ringsend, in Dublin. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show today, Athlone Green Party councillor Louise Heavin says that the small minority committing these acts are dangerous people:
