A total of 150 fines were issued for littering in County Longford last year.

A local councillor claims GDPR is hindering efforts to properly enforce littering laws in Longford. Independent councillor Gerry Warnock called on the local authority to follow through with fines and prosecutions. A total of 150 fines were issued for littering in County Longford last year. Of these, failure to pay fines resulted in 26 prosecutions initiated under the Litter pollution act.

Cllr Warnock said GDPR regulations were putting the rights of offenders above those of local communities. Speaking to Shannonside News, he said Longford County Council must get tougher when it came to enforcement:
