Government Ministers have been meeting the Garda Commissioner to discuss potential measures.
The Taoiseach, Tánaiste and a number of Ministers including the Transport and Justice Ministers have been meeting with the Garda Commissioner through the morning and early afternoon.
Some Ministers have suggested a total ban could be introduced in response to safety concerns.
