The shadow economy has been highlighted as a threat to local businesses and public health.

The personal services shadow economy is causing major damage to the industry according to the Chair of the ISME national Council.

Roscommon Native Margaret O'Rourke Doherty is the Current ISME chair and one of the founders of the Hair and Beauty Industry Confederation.

The shadow economy has been highlighted as both a threat to local business and public health over the course of the pandemic, with appointments taking place in breach of Covid regulations.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show Today, Margaret, who currently lives in Leitrim, has warned that the personal services industry cannot compete with the black market stealing customers and revenue.

According to the local business woman, the shadow economy is costing the exchequer up to 50 million euro a year:
