Local Bishop urges caution as numbers allowed at mass to increase next week

From next Monday churches will be allowed to admit 50 per cent of their capacity for mass.

A local bishop is urging parishioners to remain vigilant and exercise caution as religious services continue to reopen this month.

Bishop of Achonry Paul Dempsey has welcomed the government announcement that attendance at religious services and events can increase to 50 per cent from the 6th of September.

Communions and confirmations have been given the official greenlight to return despite many dioceses in the Shannonside Northern Sound region holding them over the last month in defiance of the government's public health advice.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan this morning, Bishop Dempsey warned parishioners that the delta variant is still a major danger.

He's urged anyone attending mass or a sacrament to be mindful of public health guidelines:
