Lidl has invested more than 1.7 billion euro in its Irish operations since entering the country in 2000.

Lidl is to open 20 stores in Ireland over the next three years.

The German supermarket chain says the expansion is part of a 550 million euro investment into its operations here.

24 existing stores will be redeveloped and its regional distribution centre in Mullingar will be given a 75 million euro upgrade.
