Gardai had a strong presence in the Mullahoran area of Cavan yesterday as a result of the ongoing controversy involving Fr PJ Hughes who is refusing to abide by Covid regulations in keeping mass an online event only

A Leitrim woman who travelled to Cavan for mass yesterday says she doesn't care if she receives a fine.

Sheila McManus was one of around 20 people who were in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Mullahoran yesterday, in breach of Covid-19 restrictions.

Local Parish Priest Fr PJ Hughes has been fined by Gardaí for allowing
people to be present in the Church while he is saying mass.

He claims he has not invited people to attend mass.

Gardaí yesterday issued a number of fines to people who had breached the 5km limit to travel to the church.

Drumshanbo woman Sheila McManus was among those stopped by Gardaí yesterday. She says she doesn't care if she receives a fine for breaching regulations.

She says she wants to attend the church for Easter Sunday mass but is wary of doing so if she is stopped by Gardaí again:
