Leitrim tourist business apprehensive over summer bookings

Failte Ireland, told an Oireachtas Committee yesterday that the lack of tourist beds could put business survival 'at a significant risk'.

A Leitrim bike hire business say they're apprehensive about bookings ahead of the summer season.

Seamus Gibbons' comments come after Failte Ireland claimed almost a third of hotel beds outside of Dublin are being used as State accommodation.

The tourism body argues rural communities that benefit from the trade, 'desperately need as much stock as possible'.

Electric Bike Trails is based in Leitrim Village with a location also at Lough Key Forest Park.

Owner, Seamus says 80 percent of tourist accommodation in Leitrim has been given to emergency accommodation,

However he believes guesthouses and hotels cannot be blamed for taking a full 12 months of occupancy.
