Areas in Ballinamore, Fenagh, Mohill, Carrigallen, Gortlettragh and Newtowngore were all affected by the outage.

A lack of communication from Irish Water over a burst water main in Leitrim is causing frustration amongst locals.

On Thursday hundreds of households and businesses were impacted by the major outage in the south of the county.

Ballinamore native Michael McTigue says despite contacting the Irish Water 24 hour helpline he was unable to speak to anyone in person leaving him in doubt as to when supply would be restored.

He also believes emergency measures should have been introduced by the local authority due to the hot weather.

This morning Irish Water confirmed to Shannonside FM that all customers in south Leitrim can expect to have their supply fully restored in the coming hours with repairs to the burst in Kilnagross now complete.

Michael says Ballinamore was hugely affected by the disruption as the town’s summer festival is currently underway.

''I contacted Irish Water myself to try and find out what was going on. There was very little information in the public domain. Ballinamore at the moment has its annual festival and there's thousands of people in the town. You've got bars operating with no toilets. You've got no water to wash glasses. You've got no access to ice. I know people that had to close their businesses yesterday Drumcoura City had to close because they had no water also a number of hairdressers had to close in the town yesterday as well.''
