Figures from the Central Statistcis Office published today show that Leitrim registered the lowest number of births nationwide last year at 391.
514 children were registered in Longford, and 704 in Roscommon.
The average age of mothers in Roscommon and Longford was 30 , with the average age in Leitrim being 31.

Nationally the number of births registered continues to fall, down over a fifth in the last ten years.
There were 19 babies born to girls aged under 16 last year, while 384 women aged 45 and over , gave birth.
