A route from Gortletteragh will also be introduced.

The major expansion of local link bus services in Leitrim will be of huge benefit to rural communities.

That's according to Councillor Paddy O'Rourke who says the network extension will see six services now operating in the county.

One of the new routes will now cover trips from Carrigallen to Carrick on Shannon with stops in Aughavas and Cloone.

Councillor O'Rourke hopes this twice weekly service which will begin on June 28th will be widely used particularly due to the recent rise in the cost of fuel.

Speaking to Shannonside FM the Fianna Fail Representative believes the revised timetable will also improve integration with other public transport services.

''All of these services are a great benefit to rural people, there's an issue now regarding how affordable is the car and local link is available. It's only four euro to get from Carrigallen to Carrick on Shannon.''
