Leitrim GAA player celebrates granting of Irish Citizenship

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister for Justice Heather Humphreys said Ireland is “richer” thanks to the contributions made by its new residents.

A well known Leitrim GAA player is celebrating his new status as an official Irish Citizen today.

Zack Moradi joined 1000 other new citizens yesterday in an online ceremony hosted by the Department of Justice.

The Iraqi Kurdish player fled the Middle East with his family in 2001 and was subsequently settled in Carrick on Shannon when he was 11 years old.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show today, Moradi, who was born in a refugee camp in Iraq, says his Irish citizenship has granted him a new sense of freedom:
