A Leitrim Councillor is calling for the Environment Minister to withdraw remarks that claimed people living in rural Ireland could be forced to pay thousands of euro to join the National Broadband plan.

Eamon Ryan came under fire last month when he said that the NBP was unfairly advantaging rural homes.

He suggested in an effort to combat a sprawl one-off new homes outside urban areas may have to pay up to €5,000 to connect to high speed internet.
