Some children in the county have not been allocated a seat.

A Leitrim Councillor is appealing to parents that aren't using issued school bus tickets to post them back to Bus Eireann.

Councillor Brendan Barry says a number of seats have been allocated to former Leaving Certs, those studying outside the country and others who are no longer attending school.

Figures released to Shannonside FM reveal 2,073 tickets have been issued to students in County Leitrim, an increase of 10 percent on last year, however according to the Sinn Fein representative additional capacity is needed.

Councillor Barry claims Bus Eireann is not a position to issue additional tickets until the unused passes are returned.

He's making this appeal to all parents.

''I'm just appealing to people out there many of them wouldn't know that these tickets are maybe causing the seat to remain vacant and the ticket is sitting on a windowsill someplace. But it's just an appeal to them to send those tickets back to the local school transport office that's in Lord Edward Street in Sligo for those in Leitrim and for those in other Shannonside counties it would be Station Road in Athlone.''
