Leitrim Active Age group gets new home to host meetings and activities

The group had to find a new home after St Mary's Hall was reclaimed as a classroom.

A Leitrim Active Age group is celebrating today following the resolution of a campaign to secure a new community centre space in Carrick on Shannon.

Carrick Active Age along with other community organizations had been meeting at The Hall attached to St. Mary's National School.

The Hall has since been reclaimed as a classroom by the school, leaving many groups without a base to meet.

The group have called for the provision of a local community centre that could host local organisations.

St Mary's GAA club have confirmed to the group, that restrictions depending, groups can now use the clubhouse to host community meetings.

According to information released from Government on today's roadmap for exiting restrictions, the ban on other indoor activities will be lifted on the 20th of September.

Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show, Lorraine McNamara from Carrick on Shannon Active Age says the return of indoor activities will make a huge difference to people:
