There are only five priests under the age of 60 in the Diocese of Achonry, which is set to merge with Elphin. There are 23 parishes in Achonry and 28 priests - but 19 are aged between 60 and 75, and four are over 75. Around 80 people attended a meeting in Strokestown last night to discuss the future of the two dioceses. They are both now led by Bishop Kevin Doran and are set to amalgamate in the coming years.
