People have been advised not to book flights home to Ireland for Christmas.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said it's too early for people to book flights home without knowing what the Covid restrictions will be.

While some backbench Fianna Fáil TDs have called for an easing of restrictions, the decision will largely rest on advice from the Chief Medical Officer.

The Minister of State at the Department of Transport says she's hopeful that people will be able to travel between counties this Christmas.

Hildegarde Naughton is speaking as NPHT considers what Level of Restrictions are in place once the country moves out of Level 5 early next month.

The Minister of State for International and Road Transport and Logistics says the lights system for international travel is a positive move, as it allows people to come into Ireland and restrict their movements for less time, if they can provide a negative Covid result after 5 days.

Speaking to Shannonside FM news Minister Naughten says while she hopes people will be able to travel home, it will be up to the public health guidance closer to the time:
