Irish Hospitals facing 'out of control' overcrowding problem

Sligo University Hospital ED has been put under severe pressure this week.

A nurses union's warning of an "extremely serious" overcrowding situation in Irish hospitals.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says it's "out of control" in many facilities, and putting patients and staff in danger.

The highest number of people on trolley's in over a year was recorded nationally on Tuesday.

The Mater Hospital in Dublin's now asking people to avoid its emergency department where possible.
