The new service should make Ireland West airport an even more attractive option for air passengers from this region

People in the midlands and west of Ireland have a new opportunity to travel almost direct to far flung destinations with the inaugural Aer Lingus flight from the airport to Heathrow yesterday.

The connection with one of the biggest European travel hubs is a game changer for the airport according to Donal Healy.

Chairman of Ireland West airport Arthur French says the hub status of Heathrow for business and leisure passengers to use the new daily service opening up onward connectivity will attract strong support for the region.

Speaking on the Let's Talk show this afternoon, Head of Marketing at Ireland West, Donal Healy,  says it should increase passenger numbers and attract new customers.

We would have several points of connectivity to the UK market , we've 9 destinations at the moment and we would have had long standing routes to the likes of Luton, Stanstead, etc, but yesterday is a game changer in terms of connectivity as it connects the airport for the first time with one of Europe's biggest connecting hubs in Heathrow.

The advantages that brings for the west of Ireland such as connections to 80 destinations worldwide through Heathrow , so a very very big day for the airport yesterday.
