The man who died was in his 40s and was well-known in the Ballinamore area.

Investigations are continuing into a fatal road crash in Leitrim on Thursday evening.

A man in his 40s, who is believed to have been living in the wider Ballinamore area and was from the UK originally, died in the incident which occurred at around 5pm at Aghacashlaun on the R208 near Drumcong.

A post-mortem on the man, who is understood to have been driving a scooter type motorcycle, is due to take place later today at Sligo University Hospital.

A technical examination of the scene has been underway since first light and the road between Ballinamore and Drumcong remains closed.
