It's not likely to open until April 2022.

The HSE say they hope to have staff in place at Roscommon Hospice by April next year.

Earlier this month Shannonside News learned that the hospice would not likely be accessible to patients until spring 2022.

Although the eight-bed unit is fully finished, the Hospice is currently working with the HSE and Saolta Hospital Group to finalise a lease.

In recent days it has come to light that recruitment for staff is still ongoing and while some panels have been formed, additional campaigns will be required in early January.

In a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound the HSE said planning for the commencement of services at the Roscommon Palliative Care Unit is underway and it's hoped the hospice will be operational in the second quarter of 2022.

It's understood funding has been put in place by the Minister for Health for the running of the facility once it opens in the second quarter of next year.
